She further urged her supporters to champion her work by purchasing the trilogy from independent children’s bookstores, conspicuously omitting any mention of the film. Her final, poignant message revealed, "i have not seen the film, and i will not watch it. its been painful holding this back from you all."

Adeyemi shared a screenshot from February 28, 2025, displaying a stark message: "do not ever use my name in an interview or video again. do not text me. do not call me." While the recipient of this directive remains undisclosed, the image notably showed actress Amandla Stenberg, a key cast member, as blocked by Adeyemi. In the video, Stenberg claimed Adeyemi expressed a desire for her in the role, citing Stenberg’s experience as Rue in The Hunger Games as an inspiration for writing a series where Black girls of all shades could see themselves. The timing of this video, mere weeks before Adeyemi’s alleged blocking of Stenberg, suggests a complex and possibly deteriorating relationship between author and cast.

As of now, Paramount Pictures and other individuals involved in the production have maintained a conspicuous silence regarding Adeyemi’s blistering statements. The film, which promises to bring Zélie Adebola’s quest to restore magic to the kingdom of Orïsha to life, exploring themes of oppression, racism, and slavery, now faces the unique challenge of promoting a major fantasy epic without the endorsement of its creator.
