Thescreescore – Director Shawn Levy has officially confirmed that Thomas Newman, a 15-time Academy Award nominee, will compose the score for the highly anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter. In a recent interview on the "On Film…with Kevin McCarthy" podcast, Levy expressed his profound admiration for Newman’s work, citing scores from films like The Shawshank Redemption, Road to Perdition, Finding Nemo, and American Beauty as personal favorites.
Levy emphasized the importance of crafting a score that honors the classical inspiration of the Star Wars universe while forging its own unique identity, distinct from the iconic themes of John Williams. He sought a composer capable of delivering a soundtrack that is both grand and thematically rich.

"I was thinking about this movie and what I need the music to be, because it wants to be sort of classically inspired," Levy explained. "But no, it’s not gonna be remixes of Williams cues. It may be inspired by some of that, but I knew that I needed a big-hearted movie score from a composer who, like John Williams, doesn’t shy away from themes."
