Thescreescore – Milly Alcock and Toni Collette, two powerhouses of the screen, are joining forces for the chilling survival thriller Hot Mother. Written and directed by Lucy Knox, expanding on her 2020 short film, the movie plunges audiences into a mother-daughter spa retreat that spirals into a desperate fight for survival.
The premise is simple yet terrifying: a daughter seeks to reconnect with her mother at a luxurious spa, only to find themselves trapped in a sauna with no escape and no help in sight. Hot Mother promises a claustrophobic and emotionally charged experience as the pair must overcome their differences and find a way out before the heat claims them.

Alex Coco, a producer of the Oscar-winning film Anora, is producing alongside Carver Films. Collette will also serve as an executive producer through her Vocab Films banner. Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw, founders of Carver Films, have expressed their excitement about bringing Knox’s vision to a wider audience, praising her talent as both a writer and director. "As producers with a strong track record of launching Australian filmmakers, we’ve been aware of Lucy’s exceptional talent as a writer-director for many years. She’s beyond ready to bring Hot Mother to life for audiences worldwide, with its thrilling screenplay and incredible cast," they stated.

Coco echoed this sentiment, commending Collette, Alcock, and Knox. "Lucy is a filmmaker’s filmmaker, exactly the directors that I’m most committed to working with. With our two lead actresses, this film will play wide globally, and introduce a new and fresh voice to the directing game."
Collette is well-versed in the horror genre, having delivered unforgettable performances in films like The Sixth Sense and Hereditary, as well as the Netflix series Wayward. Alcock, known for her roles as Supergirl in James Gunn’s Superman and Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, has also dipped her toes into horror with The School (2018) and the short film The Familiars (2020).
Production for Hot Mother is scheduled to commence in 2026. As of this writing, a release date has not been announced. Stay tuned to thescreescore.com for updates on this thrilling project.
