Thescreescore – The trailer for The Jester 2, the sequel to the 2023 cult slasher The Jester, has arrived, promising a return to the terrifying world of the masked killer. Director Colin Krawchuk, who also penned the screenplay based on a story by Michael Sheffield (who also plays the titular antagonist), is back at the helm. This time, the focus shifts to a teenage girl, Max ("the quiet girl"), who finds herself the target of the Jester’s sinister games on Halloween night. Jessica Ambuehl, Kaitlyn Trentham, Dingani Beza, and Jay Grant join the cast.
The trailer opens with a chilling scene: the Jester, contorted into a suitcase, emerges to stalk his prey in the woods. The ensuing footage showcases the Jester’s escalating terror, his magic-infused kills – card tricks and supernatural abilities – taking center stage. This emphasis on creative kills, reminiscent of successful horror entries like Terrifier 3 and Clown in a Cornfield, hints at a potential recipe for success.

The Jester, despite spawning a sequel, wasn’t a critical darling, earning a dismal 25% Tomatometer score. However, The Jester 2 aims to carve its own path. Its low-budget nature allows for a degree of freedom, and the trailer suggests a fun, if gory, slasher experience. The film’s limited two-day theatrical release (September 15th and 16th via Fathom Events) might be its greatest asset, allowing it to capitalize on dedicated horror fans without needing blockbuster numbers. Will this sequel overcome the shortcomings of its predecessor? Only time will tell. Tickets are on sale now at [link to tickets].
