Powell, a self-proclaimed lifelong fan of Captain Planet, expressed his disappointment, stating, "That one’s no longer in my hands. Yeah, they’re going to take it and run with it… I wish them the best on that one." He alluded to the complex web of rights holders and differing opinions that ultimately led to his departure. "Obviously, some things that you make in this town find their way quickly, and some of ’em don’t, and there was a lot of rights holders and things like that around it. A lot of opinions, so I’m no longer the guy running with the baton, but they’re going to make something great, I’m sure."
The Captain Planet movie has been in development for years, with Leonardo DiCaprio also attached as a producer. Interestingly, DiCaprio is also involved in a Captain Planet live-action series currently in development at Netflix.
