Thescreescore – Garth Ennis, the visionary behind the acclaimed satirical superhero series The Boys, is set to unleash his next major screen adaptation: a feature film based on his notoriously brutal horror comic, Crossed. The first look trailer has just debuted, promising an unhinged cinematic experience that dives deep into the darkest corners of human depravity.
Ennis, renowned for the subversive deconstruction of superhero tropes in The Boys – which began its comic run in 2006 and later became a hit Prime Video series – ventured into pure, unadulterated horror with Crossed a few years later. Now, director Rob Jabbaz, celebrated for the visceral horror film The Sadness, is bringing this truly disturbing world to life, with Ennis himself penning the screenplay, ensuring the adaptation remains faithful to its extreme source material.

Bloody Disgusting Horror recently unveiled the official trailer for Crossed, offering a chilling glimpse into a world overrun by the "Crossed" – individuals marked by a distinctive cross on their foreheads. These infected beings are stripped of all inhibition, driven solely by their darkest, most violent impulses. The narrative follows a disparate group of survivors, including characters named Stan and Cindy, as they navigate this terrifying new reality where humanity’s worst nightmares walk among them.

A somber voiceover reveals the rapid, enigmatic spread of the infection, stating, "It turned out, they were everywhere." The Crossed are depicted as relentless agents of chaos, their sole purpose seemingly to inflict pain through acts of torture, assault, and murder. The footage intensifies, showcasing a post-apocalyptic landscape scarred by brutal attacks, vehicular mayhem, and desperate survival attempts. This cinematic venture isn’t Ennis’s first foray into adaptations. His most celebrated work, The Boys, transformed into a critically acclaimed Prime Video series, running for five seasons from 2019 to 2026. The show masterfully satirizes corporate greed, abuse of power, and false patriotism through its corrupt superheroes, earning an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple Emmy Awards. The The Boys universe has since expanded into a robust franchise with spinoffs like The Boys Presents: Diabolical, Gen V, and the forthcoming Vought Rising. Beyond this, Ennis’s Preacher was adapted into a series for AMC, and his influential contributions extend to iconic titles such as DC’s Hellblazer and Marvel’s Punisher. His prolific career has garnered numerous accolades, including prestigious Eisner Awards.
With Crossed, Ennis is poised to once again push the boundaries of genre storytelling on screen, promising a horror experience that few will forget. While anticipation builds for this deeply disturbing adaptation, a definitive release date has yet to be announced.
