Thescreescore – A fierce bidding war has concluded with Amazon MGM Studios securing the movie rights to "The Last Letter," a romance novel penned by Rebecca Yarros, the celebrated author of "Fourth Wing." The acquisition reportedly involved a six-figure deal, with potential purchase price reaching $2 million, highlighting the immense interest in adapting Yarros’ work for the screen.
Published in 2019, "The Last Letter" gained significant traction after becoming a BookTok sensation. The story centers on Beckett Gentry, an Army veteran grappling with a profound secret while honoring a promise made to a fallen comrade. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Amazon emerged victorious against contenders like Netflix and Paramount, securing the rights with an option in the $200,000 range.

Yarros will serve as an executive producer through her production company, Full Measures, named after her debut novel from 2014. Anna Klassen, a former journalist with credits at Newsweek and The Daily Beast, is in final negotiations to pen the screenplay for Amazon MGM’s adaptation. Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Glazer and Jeb Brody are reportedly in talks to produce the project.

Klassen’s previous screenwriting work includes a 2017 J.K. Rowling biopic, "When Lightning Strikes," which ultimately went unproduced. However, she has since focused on romance stories, including the upcoming adaptation of Anna Todd’s "The Last Sunrise," starring Eva Longoria, currently in production at Amazon.
With both "Fourth Wing" and "The Last Letter" finding a home at Amazon, the streaming giant is solidifying its position as the go-to platform for Yarros’ adaptations. Similar to the extensive fancasting surrounding the "Fourth Wing" show, anticipation is building as fans begin to speculate about the ideal cast for "The Last Letter," particularly for the roles of Beckett and other pivotal characters.
