Thescreescore – As the Marvel Cinematic Universe gears up for what promises to be its most ambitious crossover event yet with Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, original X-Men cast members are poised to make a splash. Famke Janssen, who immortalized Jean Grey in the early 2000s X-Men trilogy, has shared her thoughts on her former co-stars potentially joining the MCU fray.
In a recent interview with thescreescore.com, while promoting her new Netflix series, Amsterdam Empire, Janssen admitted to a certain detachment from the intricate world of comic book storylines. "Yeah, to be honest with you, I don’t really know the storyline, so I’m not sure. It’s not my world, it’s never been my world, really, that whole comic book world. I should know by now, I’ve been in it long enough. But I’m really excited to see when it comes out. Just like everyone else, I’ll find out what those storylines are and how it all ended up."

Despite her self-professed distance from the source material, Janssen acknowledged the significant impact the X-Men films had on her career. "Those were great films to be part of, and they’ve done so many good things for my career," she stated. "It’s just amazing that over all these years, I’ve had these franchises, like the X-Men, or Taken for three films, or the Netflix series, Hemlock Grove, for three seasons, or Amsterdam Empire and a Bond film."

The actress also expressed her appreciation for the variety in her roles, emphasizing, "It’s [amazing] being part of these, but then having the variety constantly works best for me. I’m really not good at repeating anything." While Janssen’s own involvement in Avengers: Doomsday remains unconfirmed, the film is set to feature a host of returning X-Men actors, including Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Sir Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Channing Tatum is also expected to appear as Gambit, a role he has long been associated with.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has teased further casting announcements and surprise cameos for the Phase 6 ensemble, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the film’s release on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, wrapped principal photography on September 19, 2025, and is currently in post-production.
Meanwhile, fans can catch Famke Janssen in Amsterdam Empire, premiering on Netflix on October 30.
