Snyder's Next Film: "Hot Lesbian Action" Teased by Tig Notaro

Thescreescore – A tantalizing glimpse into Zack Snyder’s next project has emerged, courtesy of comedian and actress Tig Notaro. Known for her role as the viral sensation helicopter pilot Marianne Peters in Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Notaro has revealed that she and Snyder are developing a film with the working title Deviants, described as a "hot lesbian action" movie.

During a recent appearance on the On with Kara Swisher podcast, Notaro explained that the unexpected popularity of her Army of the Dead character played a significant role in sparking the idea for Deviants. She humorously recounted pitching the concept to Snyder: "What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian?" Snyder, according to Notaro, enthusiastically embraced the idea, leading to the development of the project. Notaro even joked about the film’s potential poster, envisioning it simply displaying the title followed by "Hot Lesbian Action."

Notaro offered a brief glimpse into the film’s setting and the meaning behind its title, stating that Deviants will be set "back in some old-timey days, like some closeted deviants." While the script is still in the early stages of development, the project is officially underway.

The collaboration between Snyder and Notaro comes after Netflix’s quiet shelving of the Army of the Dead franchise and uncertainty surrounding future Rebel Moon installments. Furthermore, Deviants is being developed amidst James Gunn’s DC Universe reboot, marking a new direction for DC films after Snyder’s previous involvement.

Unlike Snyder’s previous franchise endeavors, Deviants appears to be conceived as a standalone film, similar to his earlier works like Sucker Punch and Watchmen. While details remain scarce, Snyder’s proven track record in directing highly stylized action sequences suggests that Deviants will deliver the high-octane thrills he’s known for.

The journey to Notaro’s casting in Army of the Dead is also noteworthy. Originally, Chris D’Elia was cast in the role of the helicopter pilot and had even filmed his scenes. However, following allegations of sexual misconduct against D’Elia, Snyder made the decision to replace him with Notaro, utilizing green screen and CGI reshoots to seamlessly integrate her into the film long after principal photography had concluded.

The unexpected viral sensation surrounding Notaro’s character took everyone by surprise, including the actress herself. She described the overwhelming response, noting that she was receiving attention from a diverse range of individuals who found her attractive in the film. As she said, "I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women and straight women that they think I’m hot in this movie."
