Thescreescore – Netflix is poised to deliver another high-stakes cinematic experience, greenlighting an adaptation of Brad Thor’s eagerly anticipated action-drama novel, Cold Zero. This ambitious project will see the acclaimed creator of HBO’s True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto, take the helm as adapter, promising a gripping narrative infused with his signature dark intensity. Joining forces with Pizzolatto is veteran producer Peter Berg, known for his robust storytelling, who will produce through his Film 44 banner alongside Ezra Emanuel. Thor himself will serve as an executive producer, alongside Elizabeth Rogers, signaling a strong creative alignment with the source material. Insiders suggest that the novel’s compelling premise captivated Netflix executives, who swiftly moved to secure its screen rights.
The original novel, Cold Zero, is slated for publication on February 10, 2026, and plunges readers into the harrowing aftermath of a catastrophic plane crash in the unforgiving expanse near the North Pole. The scattered survivors must contend not only with the brutal, isolated environment but also with a chilling secret: the downed aircraft was carrying advanced, top-secret technology. The disappearance of this clandestine payload has sent ripples of alarm through global leadership, making the survivors’ struggle for existence intertwined with a geopolitical crisis of immense proportions.

Nic Pizzolatto’s involvement marks a significant return to the thriller genre for the writer-director, whose work on True Detective garnered critical acclaim for its atmospheric depth and complex character studies. Beyond his most famous creation, Pizzolatto has been expanding his creative footprint. He recently partnered with Skydance Sports to develop a new Netflix series featuring Matthew McConaughey and Cole Hauser, further cementing his relationship with the streaming giant. Last year, he also made his directorial debut with Easy’s Waltz, a film he wrote and produced, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and boasted a star-studded ensemble including Vince Vaughn, Al Pacino, Kate Mara, and Simon Rex.
