Thescreescore – Edi Gathegi, star of the upcoming Superman film, recently unveiled the intense physical and mental preparation he undertook to embody the iconic DC hero, Mister Terrific. This marks the character’s first-ever live-action theatrical debut, a significant milestone for fans. Gathegi joins a stellar cast including David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, and many others.
In a revealing interview on the DC Studios Showcase Podcast, Gathegi addressed the unique challenges of portraying Michael Holt, a character renowned for his exceptional intellect and athletic prowess. When questioned about his preparation, the actor quipped, "Well, as you know, Mr. Terrific has 14 PhDs… So my preparation was to learn my lines." However, he quickly added a more serious reflection:

"You just can’t really enter the body of somebody who’s this accomplished. I read everything I could get my hands on. I trained for about five months, consuming all the animation, anything with Mr. Terrific – I was desperate to understand him. The level of commitment depends on the character’s demands. This role required immense prep. I’d never played a character who was essentially a decathlete, so I pushed my body to its limits. I wanted to feel I’d turned over every stone before stepping onto set. The last thing you want is to feel undeserving on a huge Hollywood production. My approach was: do the work, gain the confidence."
