"It Ends With Us" Author Breaks Silence on Film Feud!

In a candid interview, Hoover expressed her deep disappointment, revealing that the conflict has overshadowed the core message of her novel.

Hoover shared with Elle that the feud between Lively and Baldoni has "obliterated" the purpose of her book and the film, which she co-produced. The author emphasized that the book was inspired by her mother’s experiences with domestic violence, making the actors’ conflict a painful "circus" that undermined the project’s intent to raise awareness about abuse.

The author admitted that the negative press has made her hesitant to even mention her authorship of "It Ends With Us." She confessed, "I feel like [the lawsuit] has overshadowed it. I’m almost embarrassed to say I wrote it. When people ask what I do, I’m just like, ‘I’m a writer. Please don’t ask me what I wrote.’"

Hoover explained her silence, stating that she initially wanted to avoid getting involved in the controversy. She acknowledged having her own perspective on the situation but chose not to share it, explaining, "I don’t want to bring attention to it, and I don’t want to have to put someone else down to lift myself up. So I’d rather just ignore it and let people think and say what they’re going to say."

The lawsuit has also deeply affected Hoover’s mother, the inspiration behind the book. Hoover revealed that the backlash from the film adaptation has caused her mother more pain than her actual experiences with abuse.
