This retro-futuristic 1960s-set adventure, skipping the origin story entirely, throws the Fantastic Four into a battle against the planet-devouring Galactus. The stellar cast, boasting Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, alongside Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and a formidable ensemble portraying Galactus, has clearly captivated audiences.
With a staggering $227 million worldwide gross, First Steps has not only outperformed Cruella‘s $225 million but is also hot on the heels of Encanto. This impressive debut marks a significant resurgence for the MCU, which has faced some box office setbacks recently. In just five days, it’s already out-grossed The Marvels and more than half the global grosses of Black Widow, Eternals, Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts. It also significantly surpasses the total global gross of both Fox’s Fantastic Four films (2005 and 2007), effectively erasing the memory of the disastrous 2015 reboot.
The film’s domestic gross stands at $128 million, with an additional $99 million from international markets. While this initial performance is undeniably impressive, the film’s $200 million budget means it needs to reach the $500 million mark to break even.
