Thescreescore – Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott is set to helm a fresh cinematic interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s enduring adventure classic, Treasure Island, with none other than Hugh Jackman taking on a pivotal role. Sony Pictures has officially marked November 11, 2027, for the theatrical debut of this highly anticipated collaboration, promising a grand seafaring epic that will bring the 143-year-old tale to a new generation.
Jackman, renowned for his diverse acting portfolio and recent triumphant return as Wolverine in Marvel Studios’ record-breaking Deadpool & Wolverine, is confirmed to portray the fearsome pirate Blackbeard. This marks a return to swashbuckling territory for the actor, who has previously navigated similar treacherous waters on screen. Despite his extensive career working alongside visionary directors such as Christopher Nolan, Baz Luhrmann, Darren Aronofsky, Denis Villeneuve, and James Mangold, this project surprisingly represents his first collaboration with the iconic Ridley Scott.
The ensemble cast is further bolstered by the addition of rising talent Owen Cooper, who garnered significant attention for his breakout performance in the Netflix psychological thriller Adolescence, and veteran screen icon Hugh Grant. While their specific characters remain under wraps at the time of writing, their involvement adds considerable intrigue to Scott’s adventurous vision. The screenplay, promising a fresh narrative perspective on the classic, comes from the pen of Jack Thorne, celebrated for co-creating Adolescence with Stephen Graham and his acclaimed work on the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
