Thescreescore – Netflix is poised to deliver another high-stakes cinematic experience with the unveiling of the pulse-pounding trailer for Animals, a gripping crime thriller helmed by and starring Ben Affleck. Set to captivate audiences on October 9, 2026, both on the streaming giant and in select theaters, this feature promises a relentless race against time and a searing exploration of personal boundaries. The newly released footage offers a tantalizing glimpse into the moral quandaries and desperate measures at the heart of Affleck’s latest directorial endeavor, solidifying its place as a must-watch for fans of intense psychological drama.
Affleck steps into the shoes of Mark Kimball, a charismatic Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose carefully constructed public image shatters when his young son is abducted. Alongside his wife, portrayed by the formidable Kerry Washington, Kimball finds himself in an unimaginable predicament: mere hours to secure a hefty ransom, a sum far exceeding their current means, largely depleted by his ambitious political campaign. This dire situation forces the couple to confront and expose the most "uncouth" and deeply buried aspects of their past, threatening to unravel their lives and their relationship in a desperate bid to save their child. Affleck not only leads the cast but also directs, co-writing the screenplay with Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray, ensuring a singular vision for this harrowing narrative.
The recently dropped trailer for Animals masterfully builds tension, juxtaposing Kimball’s lofty promises for Los Angeles with the grim reality of his personal crisis. It subtly hints at the potentially divisive nature of his political agenda, creating a stark contrast with the intimate horror unfolding in his private life. The kidnapping triggers a cascade of events, compelling Kimball’s campaign advisor, played by the ever-incisive Gillian Anderson, to deliver a chilling ultimatum: he and Washington’s character must lay bare their darkest secrets to each other. This pivotal moment sets the stage for a deeply personal and potentially destructive journey, where trust and survival hang precariously in the balance.
