Thescreescore – DCU stalwart Jennifer Holland has ignited fervent anticipation for James Gunn’s upcoming cinematic endeavor, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, offering an early, glowing assessment that suggests the film could be a significant leap forward for the burgeoning DC Universe. Holland, known for her role as Emilia Harcourt in Peacemaker, didn’t mince words, hinting that the highly anticipated sequel might just be Gunn’s most accomplished project to date.
Penned and helmed by James Gunn, Man of Tomorrow sees David Corenswet don the iconic cape once more as Superman, facing off against Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. The narrative is set to thrust these iconic rivals into an uneasy alliance against the formidable Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. The film is also poised to further interweave the DCU’s tapestry with the expected appearance of Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, alongside a star-studded ensemble including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.

During a recent screening event for Supergirl, Holland shared her insights with GamesRadar+, revealing that she has been privy to a substantial portion of Man of Tomorrow. Despite the film not having completed principal photography, her enthusiasm was palpable. She conveyed profound admiration, suggesting that what she has witnessed thus far positions the sequel as potentially one of Gunn’s strongest cinematic achievements, if not his absolute best.

Holland elaborated on her impressions, characterizing Man of Tomorrow as markedly more ambitious than Gunn’s prior ventures within the DC landscape. The seasoned actor highlighted that the production represents a "step up" in numerous aspects, expressing immense excitement for the final cut and for audiences to experience its grandeur on the big screen. While her praise fuels excitement, the question of whether her character, Emilia Harcourt, will feature in the film remains an intriguing mystery.
"I can tell you that I have seen an enormous, enormous portion of the movie, and I am so excited for Man of Tomorrow," Holland stated with conviction. "It is different… I don’t wanna say this. It might be James’s best… my favorite movie of James, and I haven’t even seen the whole thing yet. I’m just… I love the movie. I’m really excited about it. It feels like a step up to me in a lot of ways. I’m excited for people to see it, and he’s not done filming it yet."
Holland’s portrayal of Emilia Harcourt in the DCU series Peacemaker established her as a key figure in the universe, having first appeared in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. Her deep involvement with Gunn’s projects lends significant weight to her early endorsement of Man of Tomorrow.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow is slated to make its theatrical debut on July 9, 2027. For those eager to revisit Holland’s performance, all seasons of Peacemaker are available for streaming on HBO Max. This early critical acclaim from within the DCU camp certainly elevates expectations for what promises to be a pivotal chapter in James Gunn’s vision for the iconic hero.
