Nolan's 'The Odyssey': Audition Secrets Rival Marvel's Vault

Thescreescore – Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey, slated for a July 17, 2026 release, has been shrouded in mystery, even during the casting process. Mia Goth, known for her roles in Pearl and Frankenstein, recently revealed the extraordinary lengths taken to maintain secrecy while auditioning for the film.

Goth, who will portray Melantho, one of Penelope’s handmaids, shared her experience in a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. She described a process akin to the heavily guarded procedures employed by major franchises like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actors were kept in the dark about the specific roles they were vying for.

"I auditioned for The Odyssey," Goth explained. "They gave me dummy sides, so it had nothing to do with the script. […] And then I got the job, and then I found out that—I had to accept the job before I could even read the script and find out what the role was. So that was a new process."

This level of secrecy is a testament to Nolan’s stature in the industry following the critical and commercial success of Oppenheimer. The cast of The Odyssey, which includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous, has been a subject of much speculation.

Empire recently released first-look images, confirming some of the character assignments. However, the full scope of Nolan’s vision remains largely unknown. The exclusively theatrical teaser trailer released earlier this summer offered only glimpses, leaving audiences eager for a proper trailer.

While the story of The Odyssey is widely known, Nolan’s decision to conceal information from actors during auditions suggests that he may have some surprises in store. Given his penchant for epic storytelling and stunning visuals, The Odyssey is poised to be a major cinematic event in 2026.
