Jamie Foxx: The Fast Saga Villain We Almost Got?

Jamie Foxx: The Fast Saga Villain We Almost Got?

Thescreescore – Jamie Foxx, the Oscar-winning actor known for his charisma and versatility, was once in the running to become a major antagonist in the "Fast & Furious" franchise. According to Barry Hertz’s new book "Welcome To The Family," the producers of F9 envisioned Foxx as a potential villain, even going so far as to write a post-credits scene with him in mind.

While the "Fast & Furious" series is known for its high-octane action and over-the-top stunts, it has also attracted a stellar lineup of actors to play its villains, including Jason Momoa, John Cena, Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba. Adding Foxx to that list would have been a major coup for the franchise.

Screenwriter Daniel Casey revealed that multiple post-credit scenes were written for F9, each teasing a different potential villain for future installments. Foxx was among those considered, but ultimately, the scene featuring Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw confronting Han (Sung Kang) was chosen.

COLLABMEDIANET

It remains unclear how far discussions with Foxx progressed. He may have never been formally approached, or he may have declined the offer. Regardless, the idea of Foxx joining the "Fast & Furious" universe is intriguing. His ability to blend humor and intensity would have made him a formidable adversary for Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew.

The unused post-credits scene for F9 was originally intended to set up Gal Gadot’s return as Gisele in Fast X, but scheduling conflicts prevented it from happening. Instead, the film used the stinger to bring Han face-to-face with Deckard Shaw, setting up the #JusticeForHan payoff in Fast X.

Had Foxx been cast, it’s likely he would have been the main villain of Fast X. However, given that Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes filled that role, it’s unlikely that Foxx would have played the same character. Dante is the son of Hernan Reyes, the villain from Fast Five, and Foxx is not the right age or ethnicity to convincingly portray Hernan’s son.

This opens the door for the "Fast & Furious" franchise to revisit the idea of casting Foxx in a future installment. If the character originally envisioned for him hasn’t been repurposed, there’s no reason why he couldn’t join the saga in Fast 11 or beyond.

Foxx’s comedic timing and action prowess would be a perfect fit for the "Fast & Furious" universe. He has a knack for making every character he plays memorable, and he would undoubtedly bring a unique energy to the franchise.

With the "Fast & Furious" series known for recycling ideas, there’s still a chance that Foxx could one day join the family. Whether as a cunning mastermind or a charismatic rogue, his presence would undoubtedly elevate the franchise to new heights.
