Thescreescore – Joseph Kosinski, the visionary director behind Brad Pitt’s most commercially successful film to date, has ignited a frenzy of excitement among racing enthusiasts and cinephiles alike. In a recent interview, Kosinski confirmed that discussions are underway with Apple regarding a potential sequel to F1: The Movie, the high-octane drama that roared into theaters this summer, grossing a staggering $631 million globally.
The original film, starring Pitt as a seasoned Formula One driver making a comeback and Damson Idris as his ambitious rookie teammate, captivated audiences with its thrilling race sequences and compelling character dynamics. With a supporting cast including Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem, F1: The Movie solidified Kosinski’s reputation as a master of action-driven storytelling, a title he earned with previous hits like TRON: Legacy, Oblivion, and, most notably, Top Gun: Maverick.

"We’re in that stage of just kind of dreaming up what the next chapter for Sonny Hayes would be, and for Apex GP," Kosinski revealed to Variety, hinting at the potential return of Pitt’s character and his racing team. "Based on the reaction from around the world to this movie, it’s something that people wanna see. I’d be happy to go back and do it because we had so much fun making this one."

While the prospect of an F1 sequel is undoubtedly thrilling, fans may have to exercise patience. Kosinski is currently committed to directing the upcoming Miami Vice reboot, starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, slated for a 2026 release. Furthermore, he is also expected to helm Top Gun 3, with Ehren Kruger returning to pen the script, and the return of Glen Powell.
Pitt, too, has a packed schedule, with upcoming roles in The Adventures of Cliff Booth (the sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and the in-development Ocean’s Fourteen.
Despite the scheduling challenges, Kosinski’s enthusiasm for revisiting the world of Formula One racing suggests that a sequel is a genuine possibility. Whether it will be a direct continuation of Sonny Hayes’ story or explore new characters and rivalries remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the potential return of F1: The Movie has set the stage for another adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience.
