Thescreescore – Jennifer Lawrence is playfully calling her new film, Die My Love, a form of "revenge" after famously failing to secure the role of Bella Swan in the Twilight saga. The role, of course, ultimately catapulted Kristen Stewart to superstardom.
In a recent interview with Variety at the Die My Love premiere, Lawrence was asked if finally working alongside Robert Pattinson felt like a significant, full-circle moment, given her past Twilight audition. "Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted," she quipped, adding a touch of humor to the situation.

Directed by Lynne Ramsay, Die My Love is a psychological dramedy that explores the unraveling of a couple, Grace (Lawrence) and Jackson (Pattinson), as they descend into a shared psychosis following Grace’s struggle with postpartum depression. The film, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, marks Ramsay’s return to directing since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here.

Die My Love represents Lawrence’s return to the screen after her roles in No Hard Feelings (2023) and Causeway (2022). For Pattinson, the film follows the less-than-stellar reception of Mickey 17 (2025).
Lawrence revealed in a 2023 podcast appearance on The Rewatchables that her Twilight audition was a swift rejection. "They turned me down immediately," she stated. "I didn’t even get a callback." However, this setback proved to be a turning point, as Lawrence soon landed the iconic role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise.
Interestingly, both Lawrence and Pattinson found fame in major young adult franchises and have since pursued similar career paths, balancing smaller, independent projects with roles in superhero films. Lawrence played Mystique in X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019), while Pattinson donned the cape and cowl in The Batman (2022).
Early critical reception to Die My Love has been largely positive. The film currently holds an 80% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Lawrence’s performance receiving particular praise.
Graeme Guttmann, in his Die My Love review for thescreescore.com, awarded the film an impressive eight out of 10. Guttmann lauded Lawrence’s "earth-shattering" performance, as well as Pattinson’s contributions as co-lead, and highlighted the film’s unique tonal balance.
Guttmann writes, "Grace is the beating heart of this film, with Lawrence’s flashes of anger and violence balanced by the star’s subtle comedic timing in key scenes. It’s an uncomfortable laugh – nothing about Die, My Love is truly funny, even if there are scenes that feel designed to evoke an ironic sense of humor."
Whether Die My Love resonates with wider audiences remains to be seen, but the film appears to be another intriguing addition to the filmographies of both Lawrence and Pattinson. After Lawrence’s near-miss with Twilight 17 years ago, the positive critical response suggests that their collaboration was worth the wait.
Die My Love is slated for a North American theatrical release on November 7.
