Johnny Cage's Nutcracker Returns in Mortal Kombat 2!

Thescreescore – Mortal Kombat fans at New York Comic Con were treated to an exclusive sneak peek at a brutal fight scene from the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat II, showcasing the debut of two iconic characters: the cocky movie star Johnny Cage and the fearsome Tarkatan warrior, Baraka. While the full clip is yet to be unleashed online, thescreescore.com was on the ground at the NYCC panel to witness the carnage firsthand and can provide a breakdown of the bone-crunching action.

The scene unfolds as Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) attempts to sway Baraka (CJ Bloomfield) to join Earthrealm’s cause. However, Johnny Cage’s (Karl Urban) trademark arrogance provokes Baraka into a challenge. The other Earthrealm warriors, including Liu Kang, Sonya (Jessica McNamee), and Jax (Mechad Brooks), are visibly concerned, believing Cage is outmatched.

The fight begins with Cage employing a strategy of evasion, much to Baraka’s frustration. After being knocked down and losing his signature sunglasses, Sonya barks, "You’re an actor, so act!" Inspired, Cage retrieves his shades and shifts gears, unleashing a series of acrobatic maneuvers to gain the upper hand. The climax arrives with Cage delivering his infamous groin punch, sending the NYCC crowd into a frenzy.

The panel also featured Urban discussing Cage’s character arc, a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s production, and the exciting announcement that Mortal Kombat III has already been greenlit. Mortal Kombat II continues the story after the events of the 2021 film, with Lord Raiden and his warriors preparing for the ultimate showdown against Outworld. New recruits like Johnny Cage and Kitana join the fray, while the menacing Shao Khan makes his grand entrance.

Director Simon McQuoid returns, alongside returning cast members Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Mechad Brooks, Tadanobu Asano, Chin Han, Ludi Lin, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Karl Urban leads a group of fresh faces, including Adeline Rudolph, Tati Garbrielle, and Marty Ford. Mortal Kombat II is scheduled for an exclusive theatrical release on May 15, 2026.
