Thescreescore – Andrew Garfield has delivered a definitive blow to the hopes of fans clamoring for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. In a recent interview with GQ, the actor addressed the persistent rumors head-on, stating unequivocally, "It’s not happening and I don’t believe it ever will, but sweet of you to want it to happen." This declaration puts an end to years of speculation fueled by his triumphant return in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The third installment in The Amazing Spider-Man series was originally slated for a 2016 release, with a fourth film also in development. Marc Webb, who directed the first two films, was set to helm the third as his final contribution to the franchise. However, despite The Amazing Spider-Man 2 grossing a respectable $716.9 million worldwide, its mixed critical reception, coupled with Sony’s ambitious plans for spin-offs like a Sinister Six movie, ultimately led to the project’s cancellation. The infamous Sony hack of 2014 further complicated matters.

The plug was officially pulled on Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man 3 when Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios reached an agreement to integrate Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This paved the way for Tom Holland to don the iconic suit, headlining his own trilogy and currently working on Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

While Garfield’s solo trilogy remains incomplete, his appearance alongside Holland and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home was a monumental success, becoming a box office juggernaut within the Multiverse Saga. This return sparked renewed interest in seeing Garfield’s Spider-Man continue his journey, and left the door open for future MCU appearances.
Despite fan theories and wishful thinking, Garfield has also denied involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, confirming that neither he nor Maguire reprised their roles. However, when questioned about a potential appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars by MTV in October 2025, Garfield remained coy, hinting that his Marvel journey might not be entirely over. While The Amazing Spider-Man 3 seems firmly off the table, the possibility of Garfield’s Spider-Man swinging back into action in the MCU remains a tantalizing prospect for fans.
